What is stainless steel?

Stainless steel refers to a group of iron-based alloys that are renowned for their resistance to corrosion and heat. One of the most distinguishing qualities of stainless steel is its minimum chromium concentration of 10.5 percent, which confers improved corrosion resistance over other forms of steel. Stainless steel, like other steels, is essentially made of iron and carbon, but with the addition of many additional alloying elements, the most notable of which is chromium. Nickel, magnesium, molybdenum, and nitrogen are also frequent alloys in stainless steel.


When dealing with stainless steel, there are certain drawbacks, such as a high initial cost, the need for high-quality equipment, and difficulty with welding; nevertheless, the advantages significantly exceed the drawbacks. As a metal fabrication material, stainless steel has several distinct advantages, including but not limited to the following:
